Parkside Summer Internship Program
For High School Students Ages 14–17

The Parkside Summer Internship Program offers high school students a unique and meaningful opportunity to explore the world of early childhood education. Designed for students ages 14 to 17, this engaging program introduces participants to foundational teaching skills and the day-to-day experience of working in a vibrant preschool environment.
Throughout the internship, students will receive hands-on training and complete essential certifications, including:

CPR and First Aid Certification

Virginia Preservice Child Care Training (in partnership with Penn State University)

Abuse and Neglect Recognition & Reporting Training

Introduction to Montessori Education (through the American Montessori Society)

By the end of the program, interns will be qualified caregivers and certified babysitters, equipped with knowledge and confidence to care for young children in both professional and personal settings.

Interns are invited to participate fully in our school community, including:

Outdoor hikes in Claude Moore Park

Summer outings to Washington Nationals games

Helping to care for our beloved school chickens

Assisting in classrooms alongside experienced early childhood educators

Please note that this is an unpaid internship. The focus of the program is on education, skill-building, and hands-on experience. However, for students 16 years and older, limited part-time paid assistant positions may be available based on program needs and applicant experience.
